welcome to hapa | hale! a.k.a. one girl’s guide to all the modern island goodness from hawai'i.
h|h swoons for indie designers, handmade discoveries & thoughtfully designed finds that rock a modern and eco-friendly aesthetic.
the website debuted in 2006 after my attempts to bring a little modern island style to my home away from home proved to be elusive. and so, with a click, hapa | hale arrived online to share the scoop on all the delights beginning to pop up around the islands.
fast forward to today and hawai'i is hopping with more emerging designers, charming boutiques, sustainable eats, and off-the-beaten path adventures that i dared imagine in the early days of h|h.
a note for new friends searching for something specific - be sure to take a peek at the sidebar where you can island hop around hawai'i or take a tour room by room (cabana for surf, dressing room for style, studio for design & love nest for weddings). you can also follow your favorite designers via the handy tags posted at the bottom of each post (also a helpful way to track down everything from keiki goods to new sparkle).

fyi, if you're from hawai'i then disregard the following pronunciation guide for hapa | hale (and, yes, it is a play on words):
- ha-pa: person of mixed ancestry
- ha-le: house or building
a few notes: remember each word has two syllables ; the "a" is pronounced "ah" ; & don't pronounce "hale" like "hail" unless you would like a kick in the 'okole!
